The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Alamo Area Agency on Aging (Alamo AAA) is one of 28 area agencies in the State of Texas designated by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to develop and administer comprehensive services for people who are:

  • Over 60 years of age within the 11 rural counties of AACOG (Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson Counties)

  • Residents of any age who are eligible for Medicare within the 11 counties of the AACOG Region.

  • Caregivers of individuals age 60 and over.

The Alamo Area Agency on Aging provides services directly to seniors, and also contracts with local agencies to provide services.

To build a community that supports older residents of the Alamo Region, and allows them to age in place with dignity, security, and enhanced quality of life.

Assure availability of high quality, efficient, community services for seniors, including:

  • Benefits Counseling - Provides assistance to seniors 60+ years of age and Medicare beneficiaries of any age concerning their public benefits and entitlements..

  • Care Coordination - Assesses the needs of people 60+ years of age and then coordinates local resources to support an individual's highest level of functioning.

  • Caregiver Support - Assesses needs of caregivers and then coordinates available support services.

  • Information, Referral & Assistance  - Provides information and assistance to callers to identify and link with the appropriate service agency(ies).

  • Nutrition - Serves nourishing meals onsite and/or delivered to homebound seniors.

  • Ombudsman - Advocates for residents of long-term care facilities.

  • Senior Centers - Local neighborhood facilities for the organization and provision of support services, and recreational and group activities for the older person.

  • Transportation - Door-to-door trips to nutrition sites, local medical services, and social service agency appointments.

The Alamo Area Agency on Aging receives funding from the Administration on Aging as authorized by the Older Americans Act as well as State General Revenue funds. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services administers the program. Additional funding sources include AACOG and subcontractor matching funds, grants, contributions and private sector sponsorships.
